Westminster Register Office Wedding Photography
Westminster Register Office Wedding Photography… and on a sunny August afternoon, there really is no better place to be! Pete got in touch in June after finding me through A Day to Remember, and I was really pleased when he and Kerry booked me to photograph their wedding at the Old Marylebone Town Hall.
The day began with Pete arriving with his guests, all smiles and in great spirits. Not long after, Kerry pulled up in a classic black cab… a proper London entrance! Kerry looked elegant in a simple satin gown with a full skirt and a beautiful train, carrying a bright bouquet of yellow, orange and pink flowers. Pete looked sharp in a navy suit, crisp white shirt and brown shoes, with a matching buttonhole.
The Old Marylebone Town Hall first opened its doors back in 1920, and as home to the Westminster Register Office, it’s still one of the most popular places to get married in London. Pete and Kerry’s ceremony took place in the Marylebone Room, a lovely wood-panelled room that suits a smaller wedding perfectly. Around 15 close family and friends were there, and two friends gave short readings during the ceremony.
Afterwards, the champagne came out! Everyone stayed in the Marylebone Room for a drink, which gave the guests a chance to catch up and congratulate the newlyweds. Then it was time for the classic confetti shot down the steps. It’s one of the most iconic photos in London, and it never gets old! We also took some portraits inside the Town Hall and a few more under the grand colonnades outside.
From there, we all walked to the reception at The Larrik, just down the road. I took a few relaxed shots along the way – the two of them strolling down the street, crossing the road and even a silhouette. These are the photos I love most… real and unposed. The Larrik looked fantastic, and Kerry had decorated the room herself. Guests sat along one long table, and once everyone was seated, the TV played a slideshow of photos of the couple with their guests – a really nice personal touch. There was a beautiful cake too, surrounded by lots of colourful cupcakes.
Pete and Kerry were so easygoing and chatty all day. They were constantly laughing and joking with each other and their families, and you could tell family meant a lot to them.
As a documentary wedding photographer, I like to stay in the background and let the day unfold naturally. With such a relaxed couple, that made it easy to keep everything flowing, from the ceremony and confetti to the walk down to The Larrik, without stopping the fun for lots of posed shots. The result is a set of candid photos that show the day just as it happened… laughter, champagne, confetti and all. A relaxed, happy and fun wedding to be part of!
